Materials
When I first started making pens I wanted to work with a few species of wood and make a few pens. I never would have dreamed at the extent and variety of materials that would be available to me just to make a pen.
My first order from a supplier consisted of about a dozen pen kits (components) and a few pieces of wood. Now I typically stock over 80 species of wood, hundreds of acrylics, and generally over 200 component sets which are available for custom order and general production for Shows and Events. Some pen makers even make their own acrylic resin pen blanks. I do make a few myself when I have time. This has even grown into a small business for some of my suppliers. Many of these materials and the finished products can be seen in my Galley of Pens. There just seems to be no end to the creativity and artistry in the hobby of pen making. |
Variety
Just a sample of materials custom pen makers may use (or have tried to use) to make a handcrafted pen. This is the barrel(s) material that is assembled with the components to create the finished product. Yes, I have tried some (OK most) of these.
